Advanced Placement

Test-Out Option for Graduating High School Seniors

  • Earn exemption from certain courses
  • Receive the appropriate credits
  • AP tests are free to high school seniors

Any graduating high school senior who is accepted and enrolls at Penn Commercial may apply for Advanced Placement Status. Any graduating high school senior who feels his/her skills exceed certain class requirements may choose to take a performance test at no additional cost to the student in order to place out of the class. Any student who successfully passes the test will not be required to take the related course and will receive the appropriate credits. The student will receive a passing grade; however, the grade will not be calculated into the GPA. Any student, who does not pass the test must take the class at the regularly scheduled time.

All performance tests must be taken prior to the student's class start date in order for the test-outs to be free of charge. After a student has begun classes at Penn Commercial, a fee will be charged for the performance test. No more than 25% of the credits required for graduation may be given through advanced placement. All test-outs must be completed prior to the student being scheduled for an externship as well. Students who have test-outs pending
will not be permitted to begin the externship.

Articulation

Transfer of Credit Evaluation

  • Have your high school credits evaluated and applied toward your Penn Commercial diploma/degree.
  • Have prior school credits you've earned, evaluated and applied to your Penn Commercial degree program.
  • Obtain your degree faster and begin working sooner.

Penn Commercial has worked closely with local high schools and colleges to develop articulation agreements regarding the transfer of high school credit to post-secondary credit. Articulation agreements are formal agreements between the high school/school and Penn Commercial to define how courses taken at the school can be used to fulfill requirements at Penn Commercial. Penn Commercial requires a copy of the high school  or school catalog from the time of your attendance in order to have your school's courses reviewed for articulation.

  • Some points about articulation agreements include:
  • You can't assume a course will be articulated based on the title of the course.
  • You can't assume that a course will be accepted at Penn Commercial just because another school had accepted the course and visa versa.

Don't assume that any course on your transcript will transfer to another institution. It is up to the receiving institution to determine if the course will transfer. Please contact us for a review of your transcripts.

Academic Transition Program

Dual Enrollment Option for Juniors & Seniors

  • Earn Penn Commercial credits while still in high school
  • The program is virtually free of charge
  • Obtain your degree faster and begin working sooner

The Academic Transition Program is a dual enrollment option available to high school juniors and seniors who are interested in getting a head start on obtaining credits toward their post-secondary education with Penn Commercial. This program enables high school juniors and seniors to take post-secondary credits virtually free of charge while enrolled in high school. The only out-of-pocket expense is a $100 program
enrollment fee and the cost of books for each class taken. The credits awarded at the completion of class can be reviewed by Penn Commercial for transfer into a program of choice if the student chooses to continue his or her education with Penn Commercial.

Students participating in the program can choose from a variety of introductory courses offered at Penn Commercial and may take up to four courses per year or one course per quarter. Successfully completing four courses per year, beginning the junior year, could enable a graduating high school senior to begin classes at Penn Commercial with eight courses under his or her belt; which could ultimately shorten the time to completion for his/her respective program. Penn Commercial credits may be evaluated by any other post-secondary institution as well for transferability; however, it is ultimately up to the receiving institution to make
that determination.

Academic Transition Program Requirements:

  • The applicant must be a high school junior or senior and have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
  • Tuition is free of charge; however, the student is responsible for the cost of books and a $100 registration fee. If you choose Penn Commercial as your school of choice after graduation, your enrollment registration fee at that time will be waived and current student tuition and fees will then apply.
  • Participants must maintain a C or better in each course to maintain enrollment in the program and must maintain a satisfactory attendance record as expected of all students at Penn Commercial.
  • Once the participant has graduated from high school, they may no longer participate in the high school program. Rather, they may enroll into their academic program of choice.
  • Participants may only take courses that are offered and must meet the prerequisite requirements for each course.
  • Only those accepted into the program may participate. Additionally, overall enrollment in the high school program is contingent on seat availability and Penn Commercial reserves the right to cap the enrollments if they exceed acceptable class sizes.
